When is ADAS Windshield Calibration Necessary?

Noah Schafer

Advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) are becoming increasingly prevalent in today’s vehicles. Many of these systems rely on sensors that are mounted on the vehicle’s windshield. In order for these systems to function properly, it is important that the sensors are properly calibrated. In this blog, Omni Calibration will discuss when it is necessary to have an ADAS windshield calibration.

When Do You Need an ADAS Windshield Calibration?

Generally speaking, windshield calibration is necessary every time after windshield replacement or windshield repair. This includes instances where the windshield is cracked, chipped, or otherwise damaged.

In some cases,
windshield calibration may also be necessary if the ADAS features are not working properly. This could be due to a software update or other change that affects the way the ADAS features operate.

It’s important to note that not all
ADAS features require windshield calibration. For example, blind spot monitoring systems do not typically require windshield calibration.

How Often Should ADAS Auto Glass Calibration Be Performed?

There are a few different factors that can affect how often calibration of windshields should be performed. The type of ADAS system, the make and model of vehicle, and driving habits can all play a role.

Generally speaking, most manufacturers recommend that ADAS calibration be performed at least once a year. However, if you frequently drive in adverse weather conditions or on rough roads, more frequent calibration may be necessary.

If you’re not sure how often your ADAS system needs to be calibrated, the best thing to do is consult your owner’s manual or the manufacturer. They will be able to give you specific guidance based on your vehicle and ADAS system.

What are the Consequences If You Don't Calibrate Your Windshield?

If the windshield is not properly calibrated, the system may not be able to provide the driver with the proper level of assistance. This could lead to the driver not being able to see potential hazards in the road ahead, which could result in an accident. Additionally, the ADAS system of an auto glass may not be able to provide the driver with the proper level of braking assistance if it is not properly calibrated.
